A last hurrah

June 19, 2018

So this is Dee’s last day in Switzerland before returning home.  We asked her what she wanted to see, and she was up for anything. Having lived in an apartment in Montreux during my mission, I love the Chateau du Chillon, but I know that we had already visited other castles that are more impressive.  Maria is proud of the city of Lausanne and wanted to show her some of the highlights.  So we compromised and did a quick tour of both.

This required me following Maria in a driving tour of Lausanne – which was challenging due to the narrow streets, Maria’s slightly crazy driving, her driving an automatic on the hills while I was driving a manual, and the made-up parking places.  We were able to see the Lausanne Cathedral, a few other buildings, and some of the old town in our driving tour.  Then we made a stop to walk around the gardens of Olympic Headquarters and Museum which is located in Lausanne.  We also visited a small Pagoda pavilion that was given to the city by the royal family of Thailand.

From there, we drove to Montreux where we ate lunch and took pictures with the Freddy Mercury statue on the edge of the Lake.  While I am not particularly a Queen fan myself, it’s difficult to deny the poetic brilliance of “I Want to Ride My Bicycle”. We decided not to tour the Chateau du Chillon but just visit and take pictures from the outside.  We then returned to the Vigliottis and had dinner with Fabio and Elodie’s family.  They have four ridiculously cute kids all under the age of 7.  It was a fun evening.

It was a quick whirlwind tour of several things, but we had a great day!
